Toy Review: DC Super Friends My First Batmobile

DC Super Friends My First Batmobile

My first toy review will be the DC Super Friends My First Batmobile. Although this isn’t my son Logan’s first batmobile, it is the first batmobile out of it’s original factory-sealed packaging that he can actually play with.

This toy is meant for ages 3 and up but my soon to be two year old loves playing with it. Out of the box this batmobile comes with batteries and is ready to help batman fight crime. The construction of the toy is well done. The plastics used is of good quality for a toy. Even the wheels are of high quality rubber material.

The batmobile looks both cool and cute at the same time. Imagine a cross between a Lotus Elise and that blue alien from Disney’s Lilo and Stitch.

The batmobile, unfortunately, does not come with any figures but it has seating for two. They fit comfortably inside and you can even fasten them into their seats with seatbelts.

Sounds and Lights – On the hood of the batmobile are two triangular buttons. One of these buttons causes the lights on the batmobile to flash and sounds to play. These aren’t your typical annoying toy sounds. They actually sound pretty cool and vary from the engine starting to computer initialization sounds to a turbo boost type of sound.  The lights are placed in the headlights, the engine bay, and inside the cockpit. The different light/sound sequences rotate whenever you press that triangular button. There is a switch underneath the batmobile that enables sound whenever the wheels move forward or reverse. This sound is more like an engine revving and tires screeching as if Batman was in pursuit of one of his arch enemies. Mattel did a good job with the lights and sounds. My son kept spamming the triangular button for quite some time.

Net Launcher – This is really cool. At the front of the batmobile is a hidden compartment containing a net launcher. Push the forward section of the hood and the compartment will open. Pushing the hood back will then launch the net (about 3 feet). My son loved this but he had trouble putting the net back into the launcher. Parents will probably need to help the young ones with this.

Flight mode - I mentioned earlier that the hood has two triangular buttons on it. The first one was for different lights and sounds. The second one was to put the batmobile into it’s other mode. I call it flight mode because when you press on that button wings slide out from underneath the batmobile. The spoiler on the back of the batmobile also raises. I tried to show my son that the batmobile is supposed to “pretend” fly in this mode but he kept pushing in the wings and pressing the button so he can hear the cool sound it makes. The sound really does sound like mechanical wings extending.

My son plays with this toy quite a bit. It’s a little big for him (he usually plays with hot wheels) but he loves the sounds it makes especially when he pushes it on the floor.  I’m giving this toy a thumbs up. The regular retail price is about $29.99 but i’ve seen it on sale for $14.99 and on clearance for $7.98.
